Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Health Cabinet is always "thinking of you." We are striving to foster wholeness and
healing within and outside our congregation. One way we hope to do this is by having a Prayer Shawl
Ministry at Grace. Shawls are made for individuals who are experiencing health
problems, bereavement, or other
kinds of loss, or who may be going through a significant life change, for
example, the birth of a child.
Shawls are knit or crocheted with prayers for the intended
recipient. The shawls minister to two individuals, the giver and the recipient.
Jane Bristow, who co-founded the Shawl Ministry (www.shawlministry.com), has said.
"Shawls...made for centuries [are] universal and embracing, symbolic of an
inclusive, unconditionally loving God.
They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and
beautify. Those who have received
these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to fly above
their troubles..."
