Adult Education
Adult Education classes convene every Sunday morning at Grace at 9:50 a.m.,
between worship services. On most Sundays, there are three or four classes from
which to choose, and many classes are part of longer three-to-four-week series.
Classes are taught by scholars and other experts from the Chicago area and by
Grace members with personal or professional expertise in a given field. Topics
allow class participants to explore and discuss issues in Biblical scholarship,
theology, spiritual growth, social justice, and culture and Christianity. Coffee
and lively conversation are a vital part of the experience!
Some topics covered in the last year
- The Book of Judges, led by Dr. Pauline Viviano of Loyola University
- Historic and contemporary Islam
- Christianity and healing, led by health professionals from the
congregation
- Multi-media presentations by art historian Rhea Sprecher
- Faith and healing
- Hunger and homelessness in metropolitan Chicago
An ongoing Sunday morning bible study
group also meets during the Adult Education hour. Participants study individual
books of the Bible, on a chapter-by-chapter basis, discussing the text's
original meaning and what it says to Christians today.
For information on upcoming Adult Ed topics, please check
the Adult Ed Calendar. Class information can also be found on brightly colored signs
posted at Grace's reception desk each Sunday morning.
Grab a cup of coffee and join us! (Don't know how to find an Adult Ed
classroom? Ask for directions at the reception desk-or around the coffee urn in
the atrium.)
