If you are familiar with Flipside Academy of Movement (Flipside) in North Riverside, you may know the owner, Mr. Paul Canada, or “Coach Canada” as he’s known by the Grace students. Canada joined Grace Lutheran School this year as our new Physical Education (P.E.) teacher.
Through Flipside, Canada provides training in Parkour/Ninja Warrior, Free Running, Flipping & Tumbling, and Adult Fitness. In addition, he has a degree in Youth Ministry from Liberty University, has taught P.E. at other private schools, and has been training and coaching kids in various capacities for over 20 years. When he isn’t working, Canada enjoys spending time with his family, exercising, and being outdoors.
Like nearly everything else, Canada explained that P.E. will look different this year. Classes will be held outside “as much as we can, even when it gets cold”, due to COVID safety protocols, there are fewer opportunities for team sports, and Senior Kindergarteners are participating in regular Physical Education classes for the first time this year as well.
Canada said he is looking forward to building relationships with the students, and plans to make character development and “building good, positive character traits” a key focus of Physical Education.
