Educational Support Services

Classroom teachers at Grace pay close attention to best practices for teaching, modifying instruction in response to different learning styles and needs. In addition, the staff includes a special education coordinator, a half-time reading specialist, and a part-time school social worker.

Special education coordinator Kristine Washburn works with students in small group settings and alongside classroom teachers, providing supports and modifications. She also works with students on specific study skills, especially in seventh and eighth grades, as they prepare for high school.

Kristen McShane, a certified reading specialist, works with students in grades 1–4 who need extra help with reading. In a parochial school such as Grace, students can receive extra reading help without going through an elaborate evaluation process, as they would have to do in a public school.

When necessary, students’ learning needs may be evaluated in conjunction with the River Forest Public School District.

Lisa Guagenti, the school social worker, meets with students in classrooms and individually as they work through challenges.
