For more information contact Grace Lutheran Church - River Forest at 708-366-6900.

Sept. 17 - It Happened One Night

Oct. 15 - The Corporation

A Canadian documentary that created quite a stir with its harsh criticism of big business packed theaters in Canada last year. Six years in the making, it includes both present-day newscasts and interviews as well as old black-and-white newsreel footage, corporate ads and cartoons. It won the Documentary Audience Award for World Cinema at the Sundance Film Festival.

Warren Schmidt has a normal life going for him until his wife dies suddenly. To save his daughter from marrying a man he feels is beneath her, he takes a road trip and discovers more about himself than he could have ever imagined.
The movie stars Jack Nicholson and Kathy Bates.

Dec. 17 - Like Water for Chocolate (Spanish)

Our annual holiday "dinner and a movie" will include Mexican food this year. Tita, who is forbidden to marry Pedro, her one true love, redirects her passions with the foods she prepares in the kitchen. The movie is a wonderful mixture of magic, realism and fantastic food.

Jan. 21 - The Triplettes of Belleville (French)

Animation finally comes to Reel Talk. When her grandson is kidnapped during the Tour de France, Madame Souza and her beloved pooch Bruno team up with the Belleville Sisters--an aged song and dance team from the days of Fred Astaire--to rescue him.

handkerchiefs, but you will feel good in the end.

Mar. 18 - Mystic River

Three childhood friends are reunited after one loses a daughter, but all for different reasons. Nominated for several Academy Awards last year, and Sean Penn and Tim Robbins walked away with Oscars. It was directed by Clint Eastwood and also stars Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden, and Laura Linney.

Apr. 15 - Bend It Like Beckham (German)

In this comedy/drama, the daughter of orthodox Sikhs rebels against her parents’ traditionalism by running off to Germany with a football team (soccer in America). Playing on modern themes of Asian culture integrating into Western Civilization, it also tackles sexism amongst women in the sport and succeeding against the odds.

May 20 - Winged Migration

An amazing documentary about migratory birds. As one reviewer writes, "If you’re in the mood for a film of staggering beauty that will open your eyes to one of the wonders of the natural world breaktakingly captured in all its glory, color and movement, this is a must see."
