Every year as September approaches, I watch Grace Church and School come back to life. Church attendance picks up in mid-August, the school children return to the building, and the whirlwind of education, fellowship and service that is “Grace in action” kicks in shortly after Labor Day.
We live out our faith in community, caring for one another and working side by side in the “great cloud of witnesses” described in last Sunday’s lesson from the Book of Hebrews.
Where will you join your fellow Christians in serving this fall at Grace? How will you offer your time and talent in God’s kingdom? And how will you support Grace’s ministries with your financial gifts?
Offerings during the summer are always low. However, at this time we are on the verge of borrowing money to meet August expenses.
Last June the congregation approved a budget for 2013-14 that included annual contributions of $2,251,080. Divide this figure by 52 and you get a weekly goal of $43,290. Our offerings through August 18, the first seven Sundays of the fiscal year, averaged $17,224 per week.
I am writing with the request that you make bold financial gifts in the weeks ahead to help our congregation get back on track with regular giving.
God has blessed Grace Church and its members abundantly. God has blessed us with exciting mission and ministry. I am thankful for all you do to support that ministry, and I am confident God will provide the resources to accomplish the mission God has entrusted to us.
In God’s grace,
