Adult Education

Click here to view the current Adult Education schedule.

Adult education classes convene every Sunday at Grace at 9:50 a.m., between worship services. On most Sundays,  two or more classes from which to choose are offered, and many classes are part of longer three-to-four-week series.

Classes are taught by scholars and other experts from the Chicago area and by Grace members with personal or professional expertise in a given field. Topics allow class participants to explore and discuss issues in biblical scholarship, theology, spiritual growth, social justice, and culture and Christianity. Coffee and lively conversation are a vital part of the experience!

An ongoing Sunday morning Bible study group also meets during the adult education hour. Participants study individual books of the Bible chapter by chapter, discussing the text's original meaning and what it says to Christians today. CAFÉ, an informal adult discussion group that coordinates with the Sunday School schedule, meets at 10:00 a.m.

Please check the Calendar for more information. Choose a Sunday and cllick on Adult Education for information on that day's topics. Class information can also be found on brightly colored signs posted at Grace's reception desk each Sunday morning.

Bible Study

Bible study at Grace offers the opportunity to read and discuss Scripture in a small group setting. Some groups are led by a pastor, others by Grace members.

Groups meet at various times during the week:

• An ongoing Bible study group meets between worship services on Sundays at 9:50 a.m.
• The Cornerstones Bible study group, led by the pastors, meets on Wednesdays (from September through May) at 10:30 a.m.
• Women’s Bible study groups meet at various times; contact Grace for more information on times and topics.

New groups are formed as needed. Contact Pastor Modahl or Pastor Faulstich for more information.

New Member Class
In the nine-week Making Disciples Class, participants discuss the Lutheran view of our Christian faith and also learn about Grace Lutheran Church. Topics include worship traditions, the congregation’s ministries, and opportunities for spiritual growth and service at Grace. Anyone interested in joining Grace is welcome. Those who are already Grace members are welcome too!
For more information about the Making Disciples class for new members, contact Pastor Modahl.

Church Library
The Grace Church Library, just inside the Division Street door, offers a wealth of resource material related to Adult Education classes.
