At Grace, children in grades 6, 7, and 8 participate in a three-year Confirmation program that includes catechesis, community life, and
service. Through reflection on the Bible and Martin Luther’s Small
Catechism, students explore their Christian and specifically Lutheran
identity as they prepare for the rite of Affirmation of Baptism, which
takes place in a worship service on the first Sunday of May at the end
of the eighth-grade year.
During Confirmation, students participate in group and individual
activities that seek to nurture their relationships with Christ and the
people of God. During Confirmation instruction children learn to
identify more deeply with the Christian community and participate more
fully in the mission of the Church.
The Grace Confirmation program uses the curriculum "Here We Stand," published by Augsburg Fortress. The entire curriculum is online. Confirmation instructors include Grace's pastors, teachers from Grace School and members of the congregation.
All students, grades 6 to 8, attend Sunday morning classes from 9:45 to 10:45.
Students in grades 7 and 8 attend a Wednesday evening class once a month.
All students, grades 6 to 8, attend "Table Talk," a monthly learning and social event on the third or fourth Friday of the month.
A daytime summer intensive program takes place in June, at the beginning of the school summer vacation. There is a weekend retreat for students in grades 7 and 8.
Eighth-graders participate in a Witness Service prior to Confirmation Sunday. Eighth-grade confirmands are assigned a mentor, an adult member of the congregation who participates in Confirmation activities with the child and stays in contact during the high school years.

Gracious Lord, through water and the Spirit you have made these
young men and women your own. You forgave them all their sins and
brought them to newness of life. Continue to strengthen them with the
Holy Spirit, and daily increase in them your gifts of grace: the spirit
of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the
spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your
presence; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. Amen
