"Willkommen zum Oktoberfest!" Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at Grace
Oktoberfest is a great afternoon of fun, friendship, food, and German Gemütlichkeit. Gemütlichkeit is a hard-to-translate German word for celebrating in a cozy, cheerful, festive atmosphere, where everyone feels welcomed, accepted and at peace. Whether you're German or not, there's a hearty welcome waiting for you at Oktoberfest! Advance tickets ($15 per person age 12 and up, $8 for children ages 5 to 11) are available by calling the reception desk, or purchase advance tickets on Sunday morning between services. Tickets will also be available at the door ($18 for adults and $10 for children; children under 5 years of age are free). Sing with Joyful Voices and Joyful Voices Jr.
Joyful Voices Jr. is a new choir for children in grades K-2. The first JV Jr. session meets on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 5:15 – 5:50 p.m. in the choir room. The group rehearses again on Oct. 3 and then sings for the 8:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, October 7. Cantata Vespers next Sunday
The 2012-13 season of Bach Cantata Vespers begins next Sunday, Sept. 30, with a festive cantata for St. Michael and All Angels, "Man singet mit Freuden vom Sieg (They sing now of triumph with joy, BWV 149). William Trexler of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hickory, North Carolina, is the homilist.
Dinner at Grace benefits the Seraj Library Project in Palestine
The Seraj Library Project assists in the education of Palestinian villagers of all ages and faiths through the development of high quality and accessible libraries in the Palestinian territories. The organization is sponsoring a fundraising dinner at Grace on Saturday evening, September 29, 4:30 p.m. Visit the Seraj Library Project web site to learn more about the organization.
