Caring for the least of these
Turkey Time again at Fraternité! The nuns of Fraternité Notre Dame serve an annual Thanksgiving meal to over 400 people on Chicago's west side. Once again, Sue Foran is collecting turkeys and pumpkin pies for the meal. Please bring them to church by Sunday, November 20. If you'd rather contribute money, Sue will do the shopping. Leave a check made out to Sue it at the front desk by Sunday, Nov. 20.
Giving Tree. The Christmas tree in the atrium holds tags for holiday gift-giving for people served by various local social service agencies. Please take one or more tags, shop, and return your gift to Grace by Sunday, November 27.
Stockings for clients of The Night Ministry. Each year Grace members sew large Christmas stockings and fill them with toiletries to be runaway and homeless teens served by The Night Ministry. Our goal is to fill 60 stockings! Please bring your donations to the bin in the atrium by early December. Thank you!
Bach Cantata Vespers this Sunday, Nov. 20
The cantata for the vesper service on Sunday, Nov. 20, is Bach's "God is my king" (BWV 71). It was composed for the annual inauguration of the town council in Mühlhausen, Germany, in 1708. The text, much of it drawn from Psalm 74, reminded citizens that "God my King is from of old, working salvation in the earth."
Pastor Dave Lyle is the homilist, and Pastor Costello is the keyboard soloist in the instrumental prelude, Bach's Concerto for Harpsichord in D Major (BWV 1054), beginning at 3:45pm.
Thanksgiving Day worship
The festival service of Holy Communion begins at 10am on Thursday, Nov. 24. Come and give thanks!
