Bach Cantata Vespers this Sunday
The Bach Cantata for Sunday's vespers service, Meine Seel erhebt den Herren (BWV 10), is based on the German text of the Magnificat, Mary’s song of praise recorded in Luke 1:46-55. The musicians of the Bach Cantata Series at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Chicago will join the Grace Senior Choir and orchestra in the cantata performance, under the direction of Pastor Mark Bangert. Pastor Costello is the homilist. The organ prelude played by Timothy Spelbring, organist at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mt. Prospect, begins at 3:45 p.m.
In Sunday’s Gospel reading, Matthew quotes the prophet Isaiah: "Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel," which means, "God is with us."
How has God been with you in the past year? What are you thankful for as the end of 2013 approaches? Reflecting on God’s presence in our lives in the past helps make us aware of God’s presence today, and it gives us confidence in God’s promise to be present tomorrow.
As we prepare to celebrate the miracle of “God with us” this Christmas, the Stewardship Committee invites Grace members to make an end-of-the-year Advent Thankoffering. Your Thankoffering supports worship and other ministries here at Grace Church, ministries which help us recognize God’s work in our lives throughout the year.
You may use the special Thankoffering envelope that you received in the mail. If you write a check, please add the word “Thankoffering” on the memo line. To give online, type the word “Thankoffering” in the “Other” option on the web form.
