Fifth Sunday After Pentecost
July 5, 2015
Holy Communion, 8:30 and 11am
Prayer of the Day
God of the covenant, in our baptism you call us to proclaim the coming of your kingdom. Give us the courage you gave the apostles, that we may faithfully witness to your love and peace in every circumstance of life, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
2 Corinthians 12:2–10
Called to be Faithful
God called and sent Ezekiel to speak to the chosen people who had become rebellious. The Spirit sent Paul to speak to the fragile Corinthian church facing competing ideologies. God sent Jesus to teach and heal – to reconcile and mend all that is/was broken. Jesus sent disciples, two by two, with authority over unclean spirits and to tell good news of the kingdom, of God’s love. In this sending with the possibility of rejection, the “sent” want to be successful; the call, however, is to be faithful.
