Twelfth Sunday After Pentecost
August 16, 2015
Holy Communion, 8:30 and 11am
Prayer of the Day
Ever-loving God, your Son gives himself as living bread for the life of the world. Fill us with such a knowledge of his presence that we may be strengthened and sustained by his risen life to serve you continually, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
"Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?"
Text: John 6:51–58
Lady Wisdom issues a dinner invitation in today’s first reading from Proverbs, and the guest list is clearly spelled out: those who “are simple” and “without sense.” Jesus also issues an invitation in today’s Gospel, but it is a rather shocking one: “eat my flesh and drink my blood.” Some of the Jews were offended by Jesus’ invitation and some of his own disciples later parted company with him over “this difficult teaching.”
But “life” is what’s offered at both of these supper tables. Coming? You’re invited!
