Welcome to Grace Lutheran School's 114th School year! We're blessed to have so many new families join us and are thankful for those who have remained committed to Grace School. Throughout the next few weeks, I will be including highlights of the many new and exciting events and curricular offerings this year. A real sense of excitement and energy can be felt throughout the building!
Concordia has changed their parking guidelines. During the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Grace faculty, staff and parents will no longer be permitted to use their parking garage. The parking pad to the south of the school is owned by Concordia and is off-limits during school hours as well. The University has advised us that they will begin ticketing and/or towing cars in violation of their guidelines
Drop-Off - In the morning parents must not leave their cars and should leave immediately so spaces are available for other parents to drop off their children at the curb. If you need to park, please do so further down Bonnie Brae or on the south side of Division. With the absence of a crossing guard in the mornings, we highly discourage drop-off on the north side of Division.
NEW! At the 3:00 p.m. dismissal all students not taking the bus will exit and be picked up on Division Street. All students in grades 4 and below must be picked up by a parent or authorized adult. We will no longer permit children in these grades to meet their parents across the street or around the corner. Kindergartners will gather inside the garden area. Grades 1 and 2 will meet on the sidewalk just west of the doors. Grades 3 and 4 will group on the sidewalk to east of the doors. If you need to cross the street to return to your car, please cross under the guidance of the crossing guard at the corner of Bonnie Brae and Division.
Reminder- With the exception of parents of Early Childhood students who are walking them to class, all parents must sign in at the school office. Thank you for your cooperation.
PTO Enrichment Courses - Planning for the fall after-school enrichment program is well underway. We are always in search of new ideas and additions to the program. If you have a special talent and would be interested in offering a ten week course one afternoon per week, please let the office know as soon as possible. A small stipend is offered to instructors.
Acceptable Use Policy Forms - If your child is in grades 3-8 and has not submitted an AUP Form, please do so as soon as possible. A form must be submitted before computer use is permitted.
First Rehearsal for Joyful Voices Choir on September 1
Joyful Voices, a choir for children in grades 1-4, begins rehearsals on Wednesday, September 1, at 6:00 p.m. in Grace's choir room. Joyful Voices is open to children who attend Grace School and children who attend other schools in the area. The choir rehearses every Wednesday evening and sings for worship once a month. The hour-long rehearsal includes movement, games, and music learning activities, as well as singing practice. It's another opportunity for children to sing the praises of God and to experience music and singing in a fun but challenging multi-age environment. For more information contact the director, Gwen Gotsch (708-366-6900, ext 122; ggotsch@graceriverforest.org)--or just bring your child to a rehearsal. New singers are especially welcome at the beginning of the school year, but children may join the choir at any time.
All students who wish to sign up for band should complete their contract and turn it in to Mrs. Maggio by Tuesday, August 31. Returning band students: We will rehearse this year Thursday mornings at 7:35am. The first rehearsal date is still TBD. Please contact Miss Bernier with questions at julie_bernier@walther.com.
Morning Glories Class for Parents and Toddlers
Morning Glories, a new program for parents and toddlers begins at Grace in early September. The Morning Glories program is open to children from those who have just started to walk to 3-year-olds. There will be three class series during the 2010-11 school year, beginning in the fall, winter, and spring. The fall classes meet from September 7 through November 11. Parents can sign up for Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The cost is $280 for two days a week, $140 for one.
