Principal Notes   6/29/17

I hope summer is off to a great start for everyone.  Here are a few notes from Grace School as we near the end of June.

The City – On June 30, Grace will be discontinuing its subscription to The City.  At that time the City Pay giving feature will be deactivated.  Automatic donations scheduled through The City for July 1, 2017, and beyond will not be processed.

If you are a City Pay user and wish to continue making automatic donations to Grace from your savings or checking account or via debit/credit card, you will need to set up a gift at the Online Giving page at  Click on the Online Giving button at the bottom of the Grace home page and follow the instructions.

If you need help or run into problems creating an Online Giving account, or have trouble logging into an existing account, please contact Jim McClanahan in Grace’s business office (708-366-6900 x202).

Job Openings – We currently have openings in a few different positions.

JK Teacher Aide – This is a part-time morning position

SK Teacher Aide – This is a part-time morning position

Technology Coordinator – This is a part-time position for church and school that handles minor technology needs and communicates with tech support on major issues.

Math/Science Teacher – This is a part-time (two periods a day) position for Junior High

PE Teacher – This is a 2/3 part-time position, but could combine with the technology or math/science position to become full-time.

If you or someone you know may have interest in any of these positions, check the Grace website for more details.

Office Closed – The school office will be closed from June 30-July 7, re-opening on Monday, July 10.  The building remains open during this time during the summer hours of 8:30am-3:30pm.

Save the Date – On Sunday, August 13 we will celebrate 44 years of service given to Grace Lutheran Church and School by Mr. Mortensen on the occasion of his retirement.  A meal and program will follow the 11:00 service on this day.  Details on how to reserve your place or volunteer will be available shortly.

Updated Schedule – This link will get you to an updated 2017-18 school schedule with dates such as Grandparent / Grandfriend Day and Walkathon included.

Physicals – All children in the State of Illinois are required by law to have a health examination and to present proof of having received the required immunizations upon enrolling in preschool, kindergarten and 6th grade.

Dental- Every child entering kindergarten, 2nd and 6th grade must present proof of a dental examination reported on the Illinois Department of Public Health form.

Eye Exam- An eye exam by an optometrist or ophthalmologist is required for children entering kindergarten and children entering an Illinois school for the first time regardless of grade.

Athletic Physicals – This is a reminder that any student who wishes to participate on a Grace sports team needs to have a physical taken after June 1, 2017 and prior to practice beginning.  The form can be found here.  The physical can be completed by your pediatrician or at an immediate care /pharmacy clinic.

Summer Reading – Reading in the summer is very important to maintain reading levels and avoid the dreaded “summer slide”.  Materials for the Grace Summer Reading Program were distributed at Parent-Teacher Conferences in May.  Check it out or contact the school office for a replacement for details.
