Passage: Matthew 13:24-43

Speaker: Dave Wegner

Series: Lectionary Year A

Category: Pentecost season (summer)

We may be tempted to scurry away from Matthew’s continued revelation of God’s judgment in a vain effort to save ourselves from impending doom. But all too often we confuse judgement with punishment. They are quite different. Jesus reveals that the God for whom we long in the midst of the world’s – and our – sin and brokenness is a faithful God, a loving God, and a powerful God who holds true to the divine promise. The God of judgement is the very same God of grace. And in spite of all our fears and sins, this God loves us. This God saves from punishment.
